out of the Škoda Works in Plzeň after Munich & proceeded to trample a fair hunk of Europe under its hastily-Teutonized treads. Letting those facilities fall into the Bohemian Gefreite's hands might have been the single most destructive result of that diplomatic fiasco. Damn shame--which, coincidentally (or not), is very nearly the meaning of the Czech word škoda.

....in aviation terms if Prime Minister Chamberlain had NOT given in to Hitler, (at the urging of the French Premiere Édouard Daladier) and hostilities had broken out.

      •  I missed that the first time around (0+ / 0-)

& have now rectified that omission.

My one comment is that in late 1938 not only was "the Luftwaffe [not] what it was in 1940," the Wehrmacht would have had its hands full enough with the Czechs that the likelihood of a subsequent quick strike in the West & a fast French collapse would be rather low.  Absent those airfields on the Channel coast the Junkers & Heinkels had no way to reach London with any sort of meaningful bombload. Or for that matter with significant fighter cover--your underarmed biplane Glads might've chewed them up.

FTR Turtledove's recent & ongoing War That Came Early series is a counterfactual that turns on a German attack on Czechoslovakia after Munich & the ensuing global conflagration. (I can't recommend them for the same reason I haven't bothered to read them: however interesting Turtledove's ideas are, his prose style reminds me of nothing so much as an elephant trying to tap dance in waders.)
