    Both engines kept running? Impressive. What do you do, bring things to idle? Firewall thrust? Somewhere in between?

    I'd be surprised if the J60s in the Sabreliner even had variable stators or IGVs; is the compressor section of the J85 more sophisticated? I found a photo of a cutaway of the T-38's J85 engine, and it doesn't appear to have variable stators in the compressor case, but it looks like it at least has a variable IGV actuator ring.

    Plus, the T-38 has a much longer inlet than the Sabreliner, so I assume this would mitigate some of the flow disruption? Not that you had time to think of any of that when sliding backwards. :-)

    One guy I'd met who had flown the T-38 said, and I quote, "it was better than sex."
