was wondering about how the partisan makeup of a given state legislature compared to the statewide vote for the legislature.

I've looked at Oregon's numbers finally, and the statewide vote, by 2 party vote, is 51.65% for Democrats, while Democrats got 56.67% of districts.  This makes the district maps look somewhat favorable for Democrats.  However, it looks like uncontested candidacies favored the Republican statewide share disproportionately, and if you look at Obama's statewide share it is barely different from the state legislature's makeup: 56.27%.
