    but like all ballplayers his skills appear to have deteriorated. This happens in particular with players who rely on speed and quickness. That half step they have on the host of other talented guys makes them stars but there comes a point as they age that half-step disappears and they quickly fade into mediocrity.

    As a White Sox fan I watched Orlando play last year. His defense was still there... though he was often a little lost playing out of position at 3rd... his hustle and determination were quite obviously still there. But he couldn't hit anymore. He'd lost that little bit of bat quickness that made him one of the better players for several years of his career. Shame to see... but it happens to everybody. He might catch on with somebody who finds themselves needing a backup infielder... as the White Sox did last year... but it is clear that his days of being amongst the best are over.
