You've got all that stuff about bovine growth hormone and cancer, but "raw" milk has nothing to do with R GBH. We buy non r-GBH organic milk all the time, but it is pasteurized, not "raw".   You are being misleading when you fail to make this distinction.

Although I never said that all the milk in The United States is either raw or treated with rBGH, I can see how one may be given that impression. That was not my intention.

I simply wanted to illustrate how dairies that use rBGH are in direct competition with raw milk farmers and employ a massive lobbying campaign to maintain their market advantage. I focused on Monsanto because it angers me that the former Vice President of Monsanto is the current Deputy Commissioner of Foods at The FDA. That being said, large organic dairies have their own lobbyists, and they're just as interested in curbing demand for raw milk as dairies that use rBGH or Monsanto.

      •  I don't think those dairies are in competition (2+ / 0-)

        at all.

rBGH dairies are selling to the mass market, to people who want to buy milk at the lowest possible price.

But there's a whole different market for milk, in fact several different ones. In California, most of the milk now is labeled rBGH-free, and even much of the butter as well. Californians voted with their dollars, it seems.

And then, there's the next level, organic.

And then the next level, local-organic.

        And then after that, raw.

You see similar stratifications in yogurt and in eggs.

Fry, don't be a hero! It's not covered by our health plan!

          OF COURSE THEY'RE IN COMPETITION!

If legislation were passed that made it impossible for raw milk farmers to ply their trade, what are their customers going to buy if not for raw milk? The processed, pasteurized, watered-down jizm you call "MILK."

HONESTLY, your comment is one dumbest fucking things I've heard in a long, long time.

You know who I think is sucking the government teeth?

All the people that are swallowing the shit they're feeding you these days.

can't make your point without resorting to insults, maybe you need to drink more of that raw milk that is so nutritious and all. You're having a tough time selling your position because from the start you have maintained a preachy attitude. This will not sway hearts or change minds.

is that many of the benefits you mention that raw milk has, along with your claim that pasteurization takes them away in significant numbers, hasn't been conclusively proven.

If you're going to claim that it has, please post a source that is not specifically promoting raw milk.

If you don't like how I say what I have to say, then consult our peers. Many of them agree with me and those that do are saying the same thing in their own idiom. Not all of us are blue collar malcontents from The South Side of Chicago, but I am, and I'm completely unapologetic about it. I don't aim to please everybody. Not everyone is going to like what I have to say or how say it, and those that don't are not members of my audience. If I published a book, those people wouldn't buy it, and I definitely wouldn't crawl on my knees and kiss their shoes, hoping that they would.

            with intemperate comments.

You wrote a good Diary, and the basis for an excellent and helpful discussion that we can not have if the Diarist loses his temper.

I hope that the quality of debate will improve,
but I fear we will remain Democrats.

The logic of that statement was so unbelievably foul, the fallacy was so incredibly heinous, it offended every notion of dignity that I've ever conceived.

We all know where I'm coming from.

              This IS personal for me.

I want to make sure my seven year-old cousin can inherit his father's farm.
