  •  I find them to be eco-terrorists (9+ / 0-)

because of the violence related to their activities.  I feel the same thing about ELF.  How much damage to marine life have they caused by sinking boats?  How many lives have they put at risk by tossing what amounts to molatov (sp?) cocktails?

I've worked with enviro non-profits.  I drop them like a hot potato when they do stupid shite that defames the environmental movement as a whole.

What is your opinion?  I would welcome something opposed to mine as a point of discusion.

someone like MB could offer a more informed opinion.

I also work, in my own slow methodical way, to maintain this lovely green and blue planet for as long as possible.

how long do you let people do bad things and steamroll over the good guys until you have to draw a line ? mubarak reigned for 30 years.  you think he would have given up in 5 more ?  were the Egyption protests non-violent ?  they certainly started that way, not sure they ended that way.

does lobbing what amounts to a stink bomb constitute violence ?

what about putting your boat in the way of other boats ?

how is that different than linking arms in the streets and refusing to move ?

the problem with escalating confrontation is that it does invariably get out of hand, and makes the situation worse.

should we protest peacefully until the last _ is gone and then think, "oops, probably should have done more..." ?

I completely understand.  someone set fire to SUVs in a parking lot in oregon.  fucking stupid.  and criminal. but did he deserve a 20 year sentence ?

it's a frustration thing as you well know.  environmental destructors are always pushing, pushing, pushing to do more damage.  they get to buy government and write the laws.  you feel powerless a lot of the time, especially out west where they're shooting wolves and trying to start drilling and mining right next to national parks.

and now we have a national outlook which says: make protesting illegal.  then what are we going to do ?
