    •  Bummer! And of course (2+ / 0-)

in cities there's all those tall buildings that should have solar panels and wind generators on the roofs but don't. Yes, you do have to either have chosen your property and lot well, or developed/built it to take advantage of what sun there is.

Guess if I had a neighbor with trees so tall they shade out my ability to go solar, I'd ply them with foods and see if we couldn't come to some arrangement. Might even mention that trees so tall as to shade sun on my roof (and yard, where I'd dearly love to plant some 'maters) just might be a nasty tort waiting to happen next time the wind blows hard toward my house...

Heck, might even offer to buy them some mini fruit trees to plant along that property line instead, suggest we trade cherries/apples for 'maters. Even be entirely honest and suggest at the next block party that we ALL go solar to add real re-sale value to our homes and community, or collectively go in to install solar on any properties without houses that may be in the neighborhood, for everyone to use. Maybe include a community garden or two. Though ample subsidies and grants for that kind of development would help a whole lot. Might work, you never know.

      •  Wouldn't work. They love these trees. They dump (0+ / 0-)

tons of crud on my roof, too, cleaning under the overhang (as much as 15-20 feet into my yard) is a beech, too. They took out a bunch of other trees, but want to keep these forever. They're great folks.
