The Republican party is in a death spiral, and will continue to decline and become ever more marginalized, unless they change their platform. The problem with that is that as the party gets more marginalized, the more it is made up of people who value that platform over winning elections, and the platform becomes even more extreme. We are already seeing high-profile defections of Republican figures. Hopefully, what will eventually happen is that the Republican party with disappear outside of the rural South, and we'll see the Democratic party split in the center, with Conservadems taking over the slightly to the right of center position the Eisenhower era Republicans help, and the Progressive Dems holding the traditional left of center liberal position.

Workers of the world, unite! You have nothing to lose but your shackles. It is by the picket line and direct action that true freedom will be won, not by electing people who promise to screw us less than the other guy.
