That's why I qualified to "regional hops." Where we live, everything from Cleveland to Indianapolis to Nashville to D.C. to north Florida is within 10 hours drive time. Going west of the Mississippi takes a two or three days.

Driving's a hassle too, though time spent in airports isn't exactly quick and easy these days. Deal is, people I know who live in these corridors do tend to fly quite often, when it looks like they're not saving any time or money or hassle doing so. i.e., it takes 5 hours to drive from here to midtown Atlanta. I could fly a puddle-jumper from the regional airport, which is an hour and a half away. Two hours early check-in before Sequester, if that doubles, we're talking 4. Then I'd have to wait around for my luggage and check in at the car rental, and be at least 45 minutes in day-traffic from midtown at that point.

Just a whole lot easier to get the car here and do the driving. I can get a Prius for $30 a day or less, depending on how much advance notice. Be there in plenty of time for dinner.
