    One of the reasons not to try to negotiate with this crop of GOP "leaders" is that they have shown over and over again that they are willing to walk away from any agreement the moment they leave the room. It's a waste of time. (I wish Harry Reid had nailed this one before he agreed not to put filibuster reform up for a vote.) So are their lobbyist allies -- for example, the health insurance folks who sat at the table with the President (or his people), hammered out a deal, and the next week were up with ads slamming Obamacare.

    When I practiced law, you got to know which other lawyers in town couldn't be trusted to keep an agreement -- and then no one would negotiate with them except under the watchful eye of a court-appointed mediator, and then a judge's signature on the final agreement.
