  •  better chance against multiple, persistent armed (2+ / 0-)

The brotherhood of the hypothetical -

But darn - we just can't seem to find any examples of assault-type weapons with "decent-sized magazines" used for civilian home and self-defense. But we CAN find many examples of mass gun slaughters with assault type weapons with decent-sized magazines.

The Australians sure found that out. Zero mass gun murders since their ban. Somehow, they trudge on, living lives of fear I'm sure w/o their oh so necessary assault-type weapons.

You have no data whatsoever on the likelihood of facing multiple v. single intruders.

Correlation doesn't equal causation, and your Australia analogy is dubious.  And I guess Monash University doesn't count since 5 of the 7 victims survived their grave and debilitating injuries.  Note the shooter used firearms also restricted under the 1996 law.

    •  Example here (0+ / 0-)

15 year old uses assault type weapons with "decent-sized magazines" used for civilian home and self-defense used against multiple intruders.

      •  Entry through a window is extremely rare (2+ / 0-)

in NYC, where windows on the lower floors have bars on them and the vast majority of homes have no guns.

There are easier solutions than arming 15-year olds.

        was required.

If someone (or someones) are breaking into you home there is usually 1 point of entry.

What you all are unable to show is any significant number of home invasions where multiple parties attempted to come in through more than one entry point at the same time.

The fantasy fear is that you're surrounded; someone's coming in through the back window while simultaneously someone else is kicking in the front door. Those invasions are exceedingly rare.

Yes - in 2010! Now there's utilitarian justification. And yes, the security guard in 2007 (no private citizen setting in that case BTW), and the AR-15 that was waived around at an intruder unloaded/unfired. IOW, nothing!
