drizzly wet air down here. Flat grey sky says it'll go on for a bit, so we might as well head out for our walk.

Seems that most of the Common Goldeneyes have moved on in the past week or so. Bufflehead counts are down and the remaining males are getting very feisty with one another. Coot flock numbers are dwindling. Have noticed big rafts of Bluebills (cool! a new name for our Lesser Scaup), <100 and more over the past couple of weeks. These big rafts are new this year. I don't know what's happening. The ring-necks gather in smaller groups, nearer the shore and will be the last to leave.

And the oddest thing this morning - I found spring flowers scattered all over the hood and roof of my car - daffodils, crocus, cherry blossoms, bits of lavender and rosemary and curly kale. I haven't a clue. My bwren insists he's not responsible.

I came for the politics and stayed for the science.
