I would rather the system be bloated more, than to lose critical governmental services.
And you know what? There's a big wedge of the Federal Budget that is loaded with bloat. One where a single project's cost overruns would cover the budget for your agency in all 50 states, Times 10. And yes, Defense DID get a haircut in the Sequester (the only good thing about it) but it started from SO high, better than half the total budget and has been so bloated and inefficient for so long, that it can live off it's fat without too much strain, while more marginal budget items dry up and blow away.
    Speaking of hot button issues.

If I ran this circus, things would be DIFFERENT!

Yet those under my and my coworkers and affiliates care are the ones who suffer from this travesty.  The Powers that Be aren't interested in helping these folks, they don't see the tears of joy that I mentioned.  They don't hear the agony in their voices as I screen them for intake.  They don't hear the fear, the anxiety, the panic as I counsel people to go to emergency shelters with their 5 month old babies, due to lack of space.  They don't worry about seeing a 9 year old boy under a bridge with his mother because her husband beat her black and blue and she ran.  None of this is real to them, because in their nice, tidy, and sanitary worlds, this just doesn't exist.
