  •  Our judicial system is rather blase about (4+ / 0-)

    simple assault (no visible permanent damage) unless the victim is an officer of the law. To even get a charge filed, the assault has to be witnessed by a law enforcement officer, as if the assault were actually an insult to the authority of the state.
    See, an individual person's bodily integrity is not that important. How else would it be proper to legislate invasive medical procedures?
    Besides, what one person considers abuse, another calls "discipline."
    The Constitution's presumption of probity (that human behavior is good, unless it is proved injurious to another) really doesn't sit well with people who are convinced that "all men are created evil" and the state was invented to make them behave (just in case religious indoctrination doesn't do the trick).

    We organize governments to deliver services and prevent abuse.
