    believe guns will be confiscated. They object because the background checks will, over time, depress sales. It puts another barrier between the gun buyer and their gun.

    And what they really don't want to admit is how many sales at gun shows, etc, are to people who shouldn't be buying guns at all - in other words, the industry is dependent on the loopholes, because it's some of its most important customers need them.

    Universal checks. Centralized national database. Aggressive action against traffickers. Data for scientific analysis of gun violence and sales. We can do it eventually, even if the current congress wimps out, if we stay focused.

        Exactly. What the NRA would really love is confiscation plus open purchase. BIG sales from that!

      supplies the negligent and criminal gun buyers.

      When the barrier is higher for private sale to an firearm naive or illegal buyer, the value of existing legal inventory is going to drop off a cliff.
