...are always going to lose in the war of reason. Ted Kaczynski doesn't delegitimize the science of climate change because he believes in it, nor are the activists who fight it necessarily sympathetic with Kaczynski. Rand Paul holds irritating and regressive views on a lot of issues, but this isn't one of them.

      •  Disagree. (4+ / 0-)

Why not count him as a vote against the further expansion of drone technology and take the next, PROGRESSIVE step of organizing here at Dkos to get other Senators moving in the same direction?

filibuster I suggested his next step be to examine the laws the White House says justify their drone program to see which might need to be amended or rescinded so we don't have any legal basis for drone strikes on American soil.

It is past time to rescind the AUMF and the various Patriot Act legislations that have made America the secretive, dangerous country it has been for the last dozen years.

            than an ultra-conservative Republican? It's a Nixon-goes-to-China.
No Executive will voluntarily cede power. These illegal powers, invented by BushCheney, must be stripped from the Executive by Congress, the Courts or both. And they should be removed under Obama, because by the time the next President comes along, they will be too deeply established.
But it would be very hard for a Democrat in Congress to lead on it. And though it's something the GOP would like to keep, maybe they could be convinced to support stripping it just to fu(k Obama.
So lead on RandyPaul! I wonder if you'll be any more effective than your lunatic father.
For an historical sidelight, read The Imperial Presidency by Schlesinger. He talks about the powers that various executives arrogated to themselves with a deep focus on Nixon.

If I ran this circus, things would be DIFFERENT!
