President Coolidge attended a church service, and some nosy reporter asked him what the preacher had sermonized on: "Sin," answered Silent Cal. "He was against it."

There once was a time when being against violence against women was sort of a no-brainer. A federal law was necessary because despite advances in equal treatment under the law, there remain irreducible pockets of misogyny in America where violence against women isn't taken all that seriously. The presence of the federal law has helped a lot in reducing these incidents, because when some local sheriff doesn't want to bring in one of his buddies who gets off beating women, the feds can take the matter in hand.

But it appears that now there's a segment of our body politic, aided and abetted by the multiply-married Rush Limbaugh, that wants to go back to an earlier time when women could suffer violence and the offender could be confident he'd get away scot-free. I wonder if the few advertisers remaining to sponsor Rush's Daily Hatefest approve of that? Or would like their companies associated with such odious sentiments?

just a no-brainer, it was something to be proud of. You can call me old fashioned, and maybe I am- but Rush is older than me by 10+ years.

What the hell is wrong with him?

Reforms come from below. No man with four aces howls for a new deal.
