  •  Carl Levin who helped kill filibuster reform? (0+ / 0-)

Not two months ago? So he can grandstand all he likes, but the chance for the Dems to do something about it and he worked with McCain to make sure nothing changed.

If you're not talking about what billionaire hedgefund bankster Peter G. Peterson is up to you're having the wrong conversations.

That's one of the first things you learn when doing issue advocacy.

For the most part, Levin's record has been exemplary.  He was an old-school Dem legislator, someone who you could approach, make your appeal and know he would consider all the details and ramifications.  He voted based on his convictions, the facts and what was best for his constituents, not based on what his donors or corporate lobbyists had on their wish list.

Today's senate Dems focus too often on donors and corporate lobbyists when making decisions, even those who have been around for a while.  A perfect example can be found in Social Security reform - only a very few will speak out to say SS doesn't contribute to the deficit, that chained CPI is wrong.  The rest are left bleating in the veal pen. Same thing happened with the Public Option during health care reform debates.

We need more Dems in the Senate who don't spend all their time worrying about what the big donors want.

It is an old strategy of tyrants to delude their victims into fighting their battles for them. FDR
