Glad I am not on top of the mountain ridges this morning.  The standard adiabatic lapse rate ranges from 3.75 to about 5.5 degrees for every thousand feet you go up.  I am surrounded by mountains in excess of 4,500 feet.  Do the math and subtract an average of five degrees from 28 degrees for every thousand feet.  The tallest mountain in this general area is Mt. Mitchell at 6,683 feet (2,037 m).  Somebody said yesterday the mountains looked as if they were made of cotton.

a few years ago I took bumpers to a place near Bristol to get re-cromed. I went back via I-26. it was amazing to see the freeze line in the mountains. Simply Beautiful !

There's a chroming place there. I love to drive by when the sun is hitting the bumper yard at a low angle. It's a blinding sight!

321 & 19E sounds about right.

• ##### That adiabatic lapse rate gets me every time.(4+ / 0-)

I could be wrong, I'm no scientist, but I bet those mountains aren't made of cotton. I suppose I could be wrong.  :-)
