    might say that Senator Mike Mansfield was the first world leader to say "I shut down a big project because of environmental damage" when he let the Senate rejection of the SST super jetliner in part because of concerns it would wreck the ozone layer.

    We even offended the French by banning the Concorde from flying thru US airspace.

    Yet who remembers Manfield's leadership and legacy except some of us codgers?
