    Nor does it outgas at a rate of increase that happens to coincide almost exactly with human CO2 use.

    If Mauna Loa observatory is being put off by the mountain, it's being put off by a more or less constant amount.  In other words, a series that on Mauna Loa shows 320ppm in the 1960s and 400ppm now might, in some dense cold northern forest, be showing 315ppm in 1960 and 395ppm now.
