    of protest songs that is worth considering.

    Tying lyrics in with music engages both sides of the brain simultaneously - the left brain that deals with language and logic along with the right brain which handles music, & emotion.

    (caveat - I'm no neuroscience expert, just an avowed listener)

    I maintain that's why certain songs can literally bring you to tears no matter how many times you hear them, but even the most sublime poetry will have a lessened impact upon multiple readings (spoken poetry is a form of music, imho)

    I've probably heard Steve Goodman's The Ballad of Penny Evans over 500 times and I still cannot get through it without crying.
