    Pat "Peckerwood" McCrory. Instant classic!

It is depressing as hell to watch. I moved to Charlotte in 2004, so this is my first real taste of calling an ever-more draconian red state home. It blows chunks. Florida, Wisconsin, and of course PA, we're feeling your pain.

I'll stop just short of regretting our move from Colorado, though. The hospitals are really, really good here and Asheville's a couple of hours away.

There does seem to be a disproportionate number of wrong way and impaired drivers causing horrific accidents in and around Charlotte. I generally avoid driving past early evening.

You crowed about streetlights in your inaugural address, Gov. Peckerwood. Way to piss away highway funding. If you'd turn on the fucking streetlights, maybe the police would be able to see the drunks long enough to get them off the road.

southern descriptive adjective...and I've used it before...I was inspired by Charlie Pierce's recent article on "Huckleberry Closetcase" (Lindsey Graham-SC) and John McCain.  If you don't read Pierce, you're missing something.

I moved here in 2005, from Virginia that had just finished being squeezed dry by a R Gov.  States CAN recover from that, Virginia did for a while.

Anyway -- even before the GOP took over, Charlotte had some of the most lawless roads I've ever seen despite the appearance of a lot of cops rolling around. Drag racing, rolling gun battles on N. Tryon in the middle of the night, and those guys who weave through traffic on their motorcycles in packs at 100 mph on 85...it's kind of Mad Max down here sometimes.

Do you not see that it is the grossest idolatry to speak of the market as though it were the rival of God?

I learned to drive in the Poconos and honed my skills in Philly for a few years. The best you can do around here is stay out of the crazies' way, especially if any precipitation is present and absolutely, if it's frozen.

Last year I transferred into a job that didn't require 24-hour call after too many hair-raising wee hour trips to the hospital.    I'm too old for that much adrenaline!
