It's a highly threatened place ( particularly by ORVs) and I'd like to give folks a heads up to watch for the diary...if you know when you're posting.

like all the other DKos diary series, willyr, I will cover the geology, natural and human history aspects, and some other miscellaneous details, and suggested hikes. However, the main thrust behind the diary is to get folks to take note this setting needs protection, pronto. It is being trampled to death by cows, explored for fossil fuel energy of this, that or the other thing, and of course, I-70 slices through its massive estate, and sometimes travelers tend to overdo it when it comes to tagging rocks and littering, or rowdy campers who think they can do anything they like because there is no ranger patrols and the like. For too many years, the 'Swell,' as its turf is commonly called, has been too vulnerable and is in dire need of a national monument protection and status. Period. Mr. Obama has been apprised of this for some years, and even mentioned a time or two doing something about it, yet he never does. I intend to fly this diary down his throat and I damn well hope the Daily Kos community will support me on this matter. Sure, the Swell is practically out in the middle of nowhere, but people only could see and know the priceless beauty and prehistoric significance this place holds. I mean, years ago when the rancher owned a huge parcel of this estate, he didn't mind some of us coming onto his property and gawking at the Fremont rock art, and other glyphs. If one was into hiking, my god, you can't imagine stumbling upon such impressive sites. Anyway, that's the gist of this upcoming diary. Any suggestions. . .lay 'em on me.
