  •  T&R. I have warmed up to new carbon taxes (16+ / 0-)

in recent years and had actually started a diary rough draft earlier today on them and seeing if we could pass carbon taxes, but structure it in a way to shield the poor.

I can contact both my senators.

Also, we have a simultaneous economic and environment crisis so I think we should try and get a "two for one" and solve both with the same dollar..

    •  It is not a good idea to make money artificially (0+ / 0-)

scarce and use it as a tool to coerce good or bad behavior.
Carbon in the atmosphere is bad. We should stop pumping it there.

We organize governments to deliver services and prevent abuse.

    •  sure.. let's plunge the economy into another (0+ / 0-)

      depression.

Let's encourage manufacturers to more their facilities out of country by levying ever higher taxes on them... all at a time when current policies have lowered US power generation emissions to 20 year lows.

Sure.. let's punish the hell out of the middle and upper class and businesses just when they might be starting to produce more jobs.  Let's punish our businesses and our citizens because China and India are emitting carbon in unprecedented amounts, even while our emissions are on the decline.
