  •  Friedman is trying to get opponents of the (6+ / 0-)

Keystone pipeline to support it by opposing it even more ferociously.
Classic Friedman: "win-win", "problem solved" "voila". etc.

There is some merit to the idea. However, I think we can force a national capitulation by climate change deniers without effectively endorsing the pipeline. (I think it will get built in any case. How much oil sands it moves, for how long, is the real question.)

Rooftop/small scale solar is rounding the top of the hill. It's almost there. We need to push it over the top now.
One thing: We need to force Walmart to solarize all their stores. Home Depot too. This would be good for them, it would create thousands of jobs and would increase buyers for their goods. (Home Depot is already offering solar in N. Texas. )

We should be solarizing schools, hospitals, airports, gov. buildings. Add Walmart Home Depot etc. to that and it will bring the cost per unit down dramatically for residential homeowners.

We need to get to that point at which the bottom has dropped out on the cost per unit but going solar is mandated by regulation, supported by carbon tax.
Then the oil sands won't be worth as much.

You can't make this stuff up.

Solar is getting more competitive by the day. The other thing that needs to be done is ramp up energy efficiency of homes and commercial buildings. The DoE had a great program that was part of the stimulus to do that but it was too short-lived.

      Be radical in your compassion.

      both/and.

I'm of the Eddie Izzard school of thought on this:  "Get those tanks out there--we don't have any tanks? Well get that ice-cream van out there! Just throw anything at them...what have we got...Zooms, throw Zooms at them--Fuck off, you bastards!

if necessary for years; if necessary, alone
