I hate Safeway because their CEO is also a dick.  Food Lion is on my shit list because of the old meat tainting scandal.

I think the Whole Food guy is primo dickhead, I heard him on NPR brag that he was healthy because he was a vegan and being a vegan would cure our healthcare crisis.  I laughed bitterly knowing my one vegan relative was dealing with brain cancer and getting through the maze of paperwork to get on medicaid.

But I still shop there.  I ignore the dick and buy the value items like 365 O.J. better meat and veggies I can't get at my farmer's market or the union owned Shopper's Food Warehouse where I also shop.

I can't afford to be some virtuous locovore right now, haven't won the lottery yet.  So I don't let perfect be the enemy of good.

      means are the ends

with Valley Natural Foods, which is a local store in Burnsville MN, when I want specific things (honey, free range poultry, etc.)

Other great places are co-ops and farmers' markets.

The DC area is dominated by big supermarket chains.  I do go to the year round Falls Church farmer's market but you can't get everything there.

To me the video is a tempest in a teapot, a local employee makes a statement likely based upon wrong assumptions.  I don't think corporate made any claims about GMO foods not being in Whole Foods.  I assume that if I'm eating ANYTHING with corn I'm eating GMO food.

I'm wary of corporate GMO food because I fear that monocultures might bite us down the road but those freaking out over GMO misunderstand what it is.  I'm simply concerned that we don't have enough diversity in plant varieties due to the dominance of companies like Monsanto.
