and we could get no tow truck to take it away without title, etc.  Since it was not in a city, we could get no help from the police.  Finally, the DMV gave us advice to offer the car for sale at our place of business. So we posted a notice in a math classroom for a month, no one claimed the car, and we went back to the DMV to finish the paperwork so we could get a tow truck to take the car away.  As I recall, it cost nothing, though we may have had to pay the tow truck. It was thirty years ago in California.

out onto the main road (too far away) but that might be the easiest solution. Just get it onto the street and report it as an abandoned vehicle.

      •  I think in the end we had to sell (0+ / 0-)

the abandoned car to ourselves for $1 before we could get a paper that would satisfy a tow truck driver, and it took a while to get the paper from what the DMV agent called "that paper mill in Sacramento."
