  •  my dog and I went walking in the rain tonight (10+ / 0-)

pouring fat drops of rain to be exact, and checked out the 7 year old drainage systems the county put in to prevent flooding, since there's been so much rain lately.
They tore down a bunch of houses that kept taking on water a few years ago and dug down to the bedrock, added some greenery and a million cattails making a sort of wetlands that holds the floods and is routed through pipes that control the flow to the creek. It's small but effective, and a nice place to walk around.

The frogs moved right in, which is what your video reminded me of. It's pretty loud down there at certain times of the day. Hawks like it too.

    •  evening burned... (5+ / 0-)

i'm always happy to hear the frogs and peepers since their populations have been declining in my area.  we have a lot of birds of prey that i'm pretty sure are happy to hear them, too. B)

i'm glad that your local government is (probably unintentionally) creating habitat for wetlands critters.

      •  It was the one thing i've seen them do right (4+ / 0-)

        in forever.
        I was kind of shocked.
It's like someone with a brain took over for a minute. :)
But just for a minute because we did have to call and get DO NOT MOW signs put up because the county mowers actually went in there when it was dry two years ago and mowed down all the cattails and other plants. I shiver to think what else got caught up in that.
