  •  I used to see annoying cr*p (6+ / 0-)

in most of the hole in the wall stores and restaurants in my little corner of Fort Worth during the Clinton administration, not to mention the hateful bumper stickers. Either Rush or some screaming evangelist would be pouring filth out of the radio too, especially in places where I had to buy plumbing or hardware supplies. Obama's blackness and exoticism gives them a new point to focus on, but it has always been there.
I loved Fort Worth in many ways, and sometimes miss it. Seeing that poster makes me realise that sometimes I don't miss it all that much.

There was a great joke about the difference between Fort Wuth and Dallas women. When a Dallas woman gets pulled over, she puts on red lipstick and cries. When a Fort Worth woman gets pulled over she turns and looks at her best friend and says, "I think I can take him, Martha...".

I moved to Grapevine originally, and have lived in Dallas past 5 years. Dallas voted blue the last several elections, but it's weird here too. And yes Haltom City, and Ft Wuth, are way worse.

I was going to put Grapevine in the sentence about bumper stickers, but thought no one would know where it was. I used to go to the British Emporium to pick up some Hobnobs and Chocolate Digestives for the spouse. Now I can go down the street and get them, but have to spend hours reconstructing frijoles borracho. There ain't no paradise.

I loved the British Emporium - but for me - the day Grapevine really took on an odd flavor is when the Elliott's Hardware was gone...I LOVED that place. And now I have drifted totally off topic.
Also- I bought my first and probably only and last home there. There was something in the water that made all men in Grapevine/Southlake Soccer Assc (or maybe GC ISD) want a divorce and/or a hooker when the last kid was a senior. I thought it was a weird form of senioritis that struck dads instead of high school seniors. But it hit us too. We barely broke even on the house in 2007. And yes, Grapevine was not as warm and friendly anymore.

            No Elliott's Hardware??!!
Abomination, or at least a damned shame.

on the hooker business, it's a generalised North Texas thang, at least according to the friends who still live there.

It's kinda weird but it happened to so many of my neighbors and contemporaries. But she really was an "escort" and worked for an escort service. And she decided she wanted to retire with my guy. Which was funny, cause she really had more money than he did in the end. And when she realized that...well...let's just say he moved back home to Ky to "be near his folks" and moved in with some chick that wouldn't date him in high school.  Go figure that one out. Good talking with ya.
