  •  Many newspapers have different editors (6+ / 0-)

for their printed and online editions, especially local papers.  They choose a company to contract with to manage their online edition, which usually consists of most of the printed edition with some outside writers contributing specialty articles in areas such as technology and and picking up some foreign tidbits from overseas news services.  Sometimes the printed edition picks up news stories from the online edition and sometimes the online edition drops some local interest only stories from its edition.

Very few local papers nowadays can afford a separate in-house department to oversee its online offering.
