  •  Another way to help (8+ / 0-)

I live in a small rural county in the Sierra Nevada foothills east of Sacramento and I know that our local Meals-On-Wheels organization relies on volunteers to prepare all the food. They do the cooking at the local senior center and they are need help with the actual food preparation.

So if you have more time than money you may still be able to contribute.

The only trouble with retirement is...I never get a day off!

I ran a 'site' for a Senior Nutrition program and finding enough volunteers can be nerve wracking.  After I finished cooking and prepping meals for delivery, if we were a driver short for any reason I'd have to take the route myself. If I had no kitchen volunteer, that would delay lunch for the seniors who were our clients at the dining room. None of these programs can thrive without volunteers.

It's wonderful to see so many folks who see a need - and fill it!
