  •  I've been to Crete for Easter in the early 70's. (3+ / 0-)

I wasn't old enough to participate in the local scene (under the age of 10).  But, I sure do remember going to Knossos.  We have pieces of pottery that we found near a tree outside the fences of the palace.

I know my dad was sent tdy to Athens while we were living in Italy.  I have a Greek wall hanging with my name in English and Greek.  Lots of postcards.  We went to a local bakery and got a loaf of Greek wedding bread.  Dad schlacked it to death, we still have it 37 years later.  Worry beads as well.

    •  I got married in Greece but so many years ago (3+ / 0-)

      oh, so many years ago!

Worry beads are good to have and the evil eye charm.

Do you still have the worry beads?

though.  There are also spares at my parents place.

Oh, we went to Crete on a military transport, space a from Brindisi.  It was funny.... there were several families going (6 families??), it was spring break as well.  We all got on the plane in the sling strap military cargo seats and all our luggage was stacked in the middle.  Then they tried to load up the two very huge crates that were being transported and the reason for the flight.  They couldn't get the second crate in all the way.  They didn't have the heart to tell any of us that we couldn't go, so it was decided that all the kids would sit on the parents laps (imagine a 15 year old boy on dad's lap!!!) to get more room to get the crates in.  Well.... it kinda worked... but they still couldn't completely shut the tail hatch.  The crew still wouldn't tell us to get off, so we flew with the tail partially open from Italy to Crete.  Of course we had to fly pretty low and a couple of the crew rode on the crates over.
