66% approval rating.  Down from 73% in January.

Although its certainly not looking good

      •  I don't think that Buono will get only 22% (2+ / 0-)

I don't think anyone actually believes that. But I also don't think she can get to much over 40.

22% is more a function of nobody knowing who she is or caring about the election than anything else. I honestly know nothing about her political skills, but it's just a bad time to be running against Christie as an incumbent. Unless he does something to really tank his approvals, I don't see how we could get much more than 45%

        •  I think she gets almost all Corzine voters (2+ / 0-)

I think she easily breaks 40.  Breaking Corzine's 45 is much tougher.  Best guess is she loses by 10-15 in the end.  Partisan reflexes take hold when it's actually time to vote, so that's a high floor for a New Jersey Democrat.

Christie might be wildly popular but that has to come down eventually especially as the election nears.

I said it before and I will likely say it again, Buono will safely go over 40% of the vote at least.  NJ is still blue and she's a decent campaigner that will run a decent campaign.  I'm not sure if it will be fantastic but (as much as I hate repeating this word again) she was a decent recruit.

If Buono wants to hit Christie, she has to be careful and not do it early.  Christie, in NJ, is now considered a "tell it like it is" guy, people think that if they were a politician they would be just like him.  It's all an act really (considering his attacks on teachers, etc. were out of the GOP playbook) but Christie is excellent with the media.

A few things she should hit him on is the veto of gay marriage, at this point it makes NJ look backwards and given how adamant the House Dems want to pass it; it would be a decent beginning.  Definitely mention that at least.

The education attacks in '09-'10 are sadly far from everyone's memory and I'm not sure if he can be dug up again.  Sandy did a lot for the Christie Myth and his subsequent comments bolstered him as a "conservative moderate" which means he's a conservative but speaks non-crazy so he gets called a moderate.

Now, I think Buono should try to mention something about Christie being more focused on national politics than state-level ones and show the lack of progress NJ has.

I think I might volunteer for her campaign this summer.
