but a real person, one person. A real person was the first to carry the gene, just like a real person was the first to carry the virus that began the AIDS pandemic in the U.S.

It it possible to trace the introduction of AIDS in the US (and it was traced) to a single individual.

If it is a communicable disease, it came from someone.  With modern DNA research, we know so much more before we even start researching ...

Meanwhile,we can all be aware and awake enough to prevent the accidental spread of disease through ignorance, and through ignoring/not following the gene to its sourcd..

    •  Well, that's what I said. (I was responding (0+ / 0-)

to the questioning of that fact, which I stated in a previous comment.) It was somebody. One person.

I was in the lab where the African Eve research was done (the PI hated that nickname when the press invented it, but he finally got used to it). People had a hard time with the idea that since we're the result of a bifurcating tree, there has to be a point at which the ancestor is a single individual. Substitute "gene" for "we" and "individual, and you have both the Eve and the Adam stories.

We all understand that freedom isn't free. What Romney and Ryan don't understand is that neither is opportunity. We have to invest in it.
