  •  So depressed about this (5+ / 0-)

The dispersants and the oil create a toxic mess.  The cleanup is almost always minimal and exaggerated.  And the people are left with the mess.
The oil companies are some of the most powerful industries in the world. Their public relations firms are some of the best available and their faulty science is spread far and wide. The government complicity in their environmental destruction is beyond a doubt.
I feel like I am preaching to the choir in many ways though. We know our gov is owned by the corporations and the people who get all their news from those corporations believe what they hear. And what they hear is everything is fine with drilling in the gulf, the ocean, the arctic. Fracking and tar sands are fine. Our cleanups are successful. Now move on to the latest about Paris Hilton or Tim Tebow and btw, March Madness is getting ready to begin.
I'm not saying we need to quit talking about the issues at sites like DKos, but it is like the Dutch boy and the dike. If we can fix the dike, the other problems become much easier to fix. The corporations owning the government and the mainstream media is the problem I wish we could do something about.
