at the non-trivial number of Hispanics who now live in Ohio.  Although most heavily Democratic districts are in urban areas, Ohio is mostly farm country, and farm country everywhere depends on immigrant labor these days.  Even small towns 45 minutes from anywhere like the one where I lived have Hispanic food sections in the grocery stores and displays of Mexican herbs labelled in Spanish in the Chinese markets.

3.1% Hispanic, meaning the Hispanic share of the electorate was probably close to half of that at best. Compared to a state like Nevada which was 26.5% or Colorado at 20.6% and you get a state that is not only significantly less Hispanic then they are, but also than the national average of 16.3%

    •  Actually, the number IS pretty trivial (1+ / 0-)

although it's growing. It's barely 3%. Hispanics aren't an issue in Ohio although you'd think they presented some kind of big threat every time some yahoo Republican legislator from some small town introduces another "English only" bill.

Also a significant number of those are Puerto Rican which makes the hysteria those same legislators sometimes express about the danger of "illegals" particularly laughable.

      Jon Husted is a dick.
