    few industries that keeps the American economy alive at all.  Everything involved in manufacturing and production is long gone.  What do we have left?  Big pharma, Silicon Valley, Microsoft, Hollywood, a much reduced auto industry and even that Repubs would be happy to let die.  What else is there?

      directed at an industry that at least does * some * good . . ..  

      As compared to most others that make just as large or larger profits while out and out fucking things up (e.g., Big Oil, Big Fast Foods, Big Celine Dion marketeers, etc).

        feeding and killing us.  I wonder how much total and as a percentage it contributes to the American economy?  Maybe obesity is just the price we have to pay -- think of it as our sacrifice to the gods of the free market economy.

          country - driving to Wendy's in a Big Ass SUV listening to Celine Dion on the radio/CD!  Ugh - almost makes one want to never change out of one's PJ's and leave  their parent's basement.

          Unfortunately mine kicked me out during the Nixon years, so that's not really an option for me, double ugh.

      then maybe it's time we looked at the way our political and government system sets incentives.  This is a huge country with immense natural and social wealth.  If it cannot thrive, frankly, it's because continues shooting itself in the foot.
