  •  If the tours hadn't been cancelled (0+ / 0-)

    the line would have been

"Obama wants us to sacrifice, but he's still allowing those White House tours that do nothing but glorify him!"

    or something like that.

    He can't "win" here.

    •  Not an excuse for blowing it like they did. (0+ / 0-)

Your defense of the WH Communications fail seems to be that "they are going to get criticized either way".  That's true, but it's not a defense.  They are political pros who should be able anticipate blowback better than they have on the sequester.

I'm not saying they should have predicted a "Message to President Obama, Please Don't Ruin Our Trip To DC" from Iowa school kids to go viral on YouTube, but they could have at least asked the basic question... "How will this play on Main Street".

If anyone had criticized the tours not being cancelled, the WH could have easily parried it off as typical small-minded Rethug sniping.  They deal with that EVERY day.

Carney has basically admitted that the Tea Party "won" the Sequestration messaging, describing it as their "home run" today.  I'll be the first to admit we can't expect the administration to win every battle, every day, but it's damn frustrating to see them just hand victory over to our enemies on this issue.
