    Which means not at all.

    To me saying well, I'm an atheist but there is some deep connection that maybe is the same as god is like being a closeted gay man or lesbian, trying to pretend you're just like every (hetero) body else.

    There is a deep connection. It's called our common humanity. As humanists we believe that what impacts another person impacts me. I can't say I'm past menopause so go ahead and force a probe into another woman's vagina, it doesn't impact me. I can't say I'm educated so if an Afghan girl can't go to school it's not my problem. As Tom Paine said, the world is my country, all [humankind] are my [family]. (he originally said mankind and brothers).

    And humanists also care about caring for the planet. Exploring the universe. No need to force a god or mysticism into the equation.

    I like Carl Sagan's answer when asked if he believes in god, "what do you mean by god?"
