      Most progressives thought Obama would be that leader. Boy, do a lot of us feel like fools now. I did vote for him again, but literally only as a lesser of two evils vote. For me, the traumatic experience of the Obama presidency -- the supposedly progressive candidate who turns out to favor moderate Republican policies -- has turned me off to the idea of looking for any kind of political savior.

      But we do need people to step up to the plate and be leaders, at least in terms of running for office, recruiting candidates, or pressuring Democratic politicians to vote for progressive policies. I think a lot of what ends up happening is going to depend on whether the left has the will to fight, or just kind of resigns ourselves to a crappy federal government that never represents our views.

      The most serious problem in American politics today is that people with wrong ideas are uncompromising, and people with good ideas are submissive and unwilling to fight. Change that, and we might have a real democracy again.
