  •  Maybe the first decision on this really belongs to (0+ / 0-)

Canadians. The oil is a natural resource of the Province of Alberta (natural resources fall under provincial constitutional jurisdiction). The pipeline company is a Canadian company with shares listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Most of the drilling rights belong to US and other international oil compnaies. But the envrionment belongs to Canadians.

And the tarsands are one big environmental disaster, no matter how one paints it, using more energy to extract the oil than the energy produced by the extracted oil.

The heavy crude is not going to be given to Americans to sell at cut rates to Americans. It's going to be sold for the full price. It's going to Texas because it is so "thick" that Texas is the only place with refineries that can handle it.

Canadians need to decide first  if they even want it produced further, given the huge envirommental degradation. Watch the two videos before you go any further. It is the rape of a land; of a sovereign country and not handmaid: as in raping and pillaging, something the US has shown some propensity for in the past.

I am undecided even now, but I do believe in first things first. The current Conservative governments in Edmonton and Canada don't want to hear any debate - one is unpatriotic even to raise any questions.
