now if David Brower and the Sierra Club hadn't put together the campaign that stopped the insanity of creating reservoirs inside the park. You know, the reservoirs that proponents claimed would help tourists get closer to the scenery.

I want the SC to be fiesty, too. That's why I first joined as a college student.   But I don't want to perpetuate the idea that it hasn't been, or isn't still.

but didn't David Brower found Friends of the Earth because the Sierra Club wasn't quite feisty enough for him anymore?

Anyway, my comment was mostly in reference to the recent policy change on civil disobedience, I didn't mean to imply they have never taken a risky stance before. But as with any large organization, there's always the temptation to become comfortable and complacent, and I'm happy to see the Sierra Club embracing its activist roots more tightly.

including the League of Conservation Voters, and Earth Island Institute. Brower was plenty feisty---a visionary and an activist who didn't stay in one place too long, it seemed.

I applaud the Sierra Club's new activism especially on climate issues, and it's partly due to Michael Brune's leadership. I also care about some of the core issues that the Sierra Club was founded on, most especially protecting our public lands and wild places. A hundred years from now, assuming we can manage to get away from a fossil fuel world, our great granchildren will cherish the wildness that we leave to them---if we have the will and feistiness of David Brower.
