  •  I too Graduated in '78 (0+ / 0-)

here on the west coast, strongly remember classmates seeking out and working summer jobs all over the place.  Classmates of mine worked Alaskan Salmon fishing, doing wildlife survey's where ANWAR now is and one buddy who studied Caribou on the North slope while the pipeline was being built.

We were all either wildlife, fisheries, oceanography, engineering or natural resource majors at Humboldt State in the mid 70's. That's what folks did in order to get their feet in the door to get a job when we graduated.  Now most of those classmates are beginning to retire from their jobs as land managers all over the nation and internationally also.  for the last 35 years we have done the day to day work of restoring the wildlife habitat, studying endangered species and protecting wild places. Nominee's Jewell very likely worked as an under grad during her summer's on the North slope of Alaska doing the grunt work needed such as working on a survey crew pulling chain along the pipeline route or some such activities in Alaska, many folks did in the 70's.

Life is not a problem to be solved but an adventure to be experienced.
