while videos are also subject to such a thing, it is more difficult once the original video is made.   In other words the Supremes are supremely aware that certain members of the court regularly make fools of themselves and generally behave badly.   Printed records do not reflect this or, if they do, can be edited.  The Supremes learned from Congress and lower courts allowing video cameras.

In short, like the high priests of old, the Supremes have rendered justice into a sort of arcane procedure where they receive supplicants and then retire to chambers to invoke Themis or Justitia or other deities and to brew their potion of precedents, old briefs to raise the spirits of the Founding Fathers in order to receive divine guidance.  Once the invocation is over, they emerge, Delphic like, to reveal what their mystic convocation has determined.  On really dramatic issues I understand Scalia descends the dais with two stone tablets inscribed with the Law.

While they have not yet elevated Law to a religion, they have acquired as much of the ceremony and pomp of the RCC and we all know the Bishops would never allow cameras in their deliberations on the next Pope

of reporters and observers witnessing the arguments, so if there was some less-than-appropriate commentary, it would be incredibly damaging if an attempt to "censor" the record was made. Besides, they're rather untouchable anyway, I don't think they worry about it too much.

Just doesn't seem plausible that they would engage in that behavior.

Somebody has to do something, and it's just incredibly pathetic that it has to be us.

      •  you underestimate the value they place on the (0+ / 0-)

dignity of the SCOTUS.  As it is, the nose picking, farting and ass scratching are all deleted from the record while if it is recorded, they will be revealed as only human after all.  you have to remember some of these people do view themselves as high priests of the Law deserving the same respect and deference the Egyptian priests of Horus enjoyed
