seem to be incapable of self-awareness and, having no self-awareness and, therefor, no basis for comparison, they have no awareness of other people either. All they have is what they perceive on the surface, so to speak. What they can see and hear is all they get. I compare it to someone being color blind.
We identify such people as lacking in empathy, as if it were an emotional problem. But, they aren't lacking in emotion. Quite the opposite. They just seem to be able to make some necessary connection between what they perceive and what they feel. Often times their feelings surface as what we identify as the seven deadly sins (anger, greed, gluttony, lust, pride, sloth and envy), which are probably called deadly because, in the end, they are self-defeating.
Portman is grand-standing, making a spectacle of his son. His son, someone he owns and, because he owns him, he's different.

The ownership society has all kinds of permutations. Family values aren't just about authority; they're also about ownership of other human beings.

We organize governments to deliver services and prevent abuse.
