  •  I like to see her stay in the Senate (7+ / 0-)

    for a while.

    Perhaps, in the future?

    •  I think she has a better chance than (2+ / 0-)

Clinton. And Warren as opposed to Clinton can get feet on the ground going door to door.

Let's just say getting a woman in the next election is an essentially important short term goal for me.

      •  I think that Warren needs to build (9+ / 0-)

a national presence - I also worry about pulling her out of the Senate when we just got her there.

She many be a household name on leftie websites but she isn't one yet across the board.

A generation that happens to be not only angry but angry about the same things she is angry about. While being at loose ends! So there is tremendous potential there.

And imo at the moment saying 'stay in the Senate' is akin to diving deeper into the La Brea Tar Pits. Can she be effective there or is her voice going to be smothered by the parade of morons on the right?

I see your point regarding Clinton and market value. But those demographics and methods of interaction are shrinking. In the online world she is tainted from several perspectives that the right will gleefully embrace. Any thought to how that will be addressed?

You could say Warren has a similar image problem but the McCarthyism is seen as the screeching it is.

          •  well, the truth is, nobody in politics really (5+ / 0-)

can be maximally effective. You lose the ability to act and speak unabashedly when you're an elected official.

If you want someone to reallly make a difference, the person is best off not running for office at all.

This is the problem I have sometimes with the left (of which I am a firm member). We want our activists to be politicians these days. Back in the 60's the activists didn't run for office and they could make speech and hold rallies and say shit no politician in the country could come out and say really. And in the end it was the activists who raised the profile of the issues enough to make the pols fear they'd lose their jobs if they didn't do what the "american people" wanted.

No politician, no matter how awesome, will approach the effectiveness of a committed activist. When you're an elected official you just don't have that freedom. I love Warren and what she's doing. But you're right. She's one in 100. Better that than nothing. But as president, it wouldn't be much different. And perhaps even less power in terms of actually getting legislation passed.

Sometimes I wish our most eloquent and vociferous voices would actually stay OUT of elected office. Lord does the left need some activists.

          •  which isnt to say we should run for office (3+ / 0-)

or encourage people to do that. I'm just saying that if you're talking about her power and ability to get things done, I'm not sure she's more effective as president than she is now.

            Maybe. Maybe not.

            •  I agree with you (0+ / 0-)

elected office has constraints - and you have to work with other elected officials - from both parties.  Tis the nature of the beast.

You raise an important point - it's why I don't compare politicians to activists - apples and oranges.
