attractive suffers credibility problems because people don't think she has a brain in her head no matter how smart and capable she is. Maybe I say this because of my own experiences in business and being what some consider to be attractive. I feel like it's a double edged sword. You can get some doors opened but only to a point. After that people think you can't possibly be smart and capable. It's an effect of media images and cultural norms and expectations.

I think the US can indeed elect a woman. She will not look like Angelina Jolie. Ever. She will be average looking to "unattractive" and will be an older "non-sexualized" woman. (Hillary-like).

    •  That's true as well. (5+ / 0-)

Too attractive and you are deemed a dimwit.

      Sigh. Damned from both directions.

With some women looks made no difference however - they had such a powerful presence.  I'm thinking about the late, great Barbara Jordan.

One very attractive woman elected to statewide office I can think of is Kamala Harris.
