  •  Like Texas to oil (1+ / 0-)

Connecticut is diversified, just like Texas, but asking Connecticut to regulate guns is like asking Texas to regulate oil.  There are going to be some half hearted efforts, but no one is going to give up their G-Wagons, vacation homes, and steaks just to save a couple kids.  And the legislators are not going to ignore the manufacturers when they come a calling.

So this is going to take more than a massacre and a bike ride. Weaning oneself from the death profits is a long process, one that most states and the US congress does not seem to have any heart for.  We know that if we ask for annual inventory and are allowed to track guns back to sellers we can reduce the number of guns on the street.  We also impact major CEOs and Investors who like money.

    •  Maryland did it. (7+ / 0-)

Baretta threatened to pull out their corporate headquarters.

Maryland still passed gun control legislation.

Fuck the gun manufacturers.  Would you allow your kids to drink PCB's just because Monsanto threatened to pull out of your state?

It it frigging time to stand up to blackmailers.  Including the ones in Congress.

We will never be free from fear as long as we fear the NRA.

      •  They are threatening to move - but there are (5+ / 0-)

many states with gun manufacturers who have already passed laws.

There is a lot of bluster. The states are going to have to lead on this

New York passed their first gun law in 1910 - The Sullivan Act. Recently New York became the first state to crack down on the gun show loophole, and worked with the industry to close it.

One measure requires gun show operators to use an  inventory system to tag every gun that goes into a show, and check every gun that comes out of a show, so they can check that background checks were performed. Another measure required gun show operators to hire enough security guards to police the parking lot and prevent illegal gun sales on the grounds of the gun show venue.
