  •  CPAC's Dr. Ben Carson: a true Rocket Surgeon (8+ / 0-)
It's more than clear: there is a future here for Ben Carson if he wants it. As he announces his imminent retirement from neurosurgery, it's clear that he does.

By most accounts, he is an admirable person. Raised by a single mother in inner city Chicago, he overcame incipient academic failure as a youth to graduate from Yale at the University of Michigan Medical School.

He is a very talented surgeon. He became head of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins at the exceedingly young age of 33. He and his wife have established the Carson Scholars Fund which makes grants to students at all levels of the Baltimore County public schools.

He has written five books. The first, the autobiographical Gifted Hands was made into a 2009 movie starring Cuba Gooding, Jr.

He is also reportedly an evolution denier, among other "quirky" attributes. That aside, he has more real "star quality" than any other Republican in the country. He is positioning himself for political greatness. His Horatio Alger meets Joan of Arc meets down-home preacher viewpoint will win him many otherwise reluctant votes.
